The Postville Housing Code Plans of Inspection was adopted by Resolution #1473-25: Postville Housing Code Plans Of Inspection 12.12.25.  These Plans of Inspection are applicable to the inspection of all dwelling units, subject to the provisions of the Postville Housing Code, including: The regular inspection of all rental dwelling units, rooming houses, congregate housing, independent group residences or mobile homes held out for rental.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Landlord License and Rental Registration; all landlords are required to obtain a valid Landlord License and Rental Registration to register each rental dwelling unit with the City of Postville.
  2. Housing Inspection; each registered dwelling unit must undergo a housing inspection conducted by a licensed housing inspector, as defined by Iowa Code 558A.4A, using the City’s approved Housing Inspection form.  A passing inspection is required in order to obtain a Certificate of Inspected Housing.
  3. Compliance and Enforcement; If your rental property is not currently registered and/or inspected, you are required to take corrective action immediately.  Failure to comply with registration, fee payment, and inspection requirements within the timelines stated may result in enforcement action, including but not limited to late fees, license suspension, municipal infractions, or other remedies authorized by the Postville Code of Ordinances.

FEES

  1. Annual Landlord License Fee: $50 (renewed annually)
  2. Rental Registration Fees: Single-family dwelling unit: $40 (one time fee), Multi-family dwelling: $40 base fee plus $20 per unit (one-time fee)
